The Grampian Association of Storytellers and Archaeolink Prehistory Park proudly present "Gadiefest 2009"

A festival of Storytelling and Traditional Arts in the North East of Scotland.

Friday 4th - Saturday 6th September 2009

GAS and Archaeolink held the first Gadiefest Storytelling Festival between the 4th and 6th September 2009. We wanted to organise a Festival for the North East of Scotland which celibrated storytelling, drama, music, ballads, arts, crafts and poetry.

As the North East of Scotland is an area so rich in history and folklore, "Gadiefest" endeavoured to include all of these in a weekend of culture for all ages! We're pleased to announce that it was a great weekend and that we hope it will become an annual event.

Some photos from the weekend are below - Please click on them to go to the photo itself.  Apologies to those we didn't get a photo of!

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

Friday 4th September 2009

Guest Storyteller Colin McAllister will open the event at 7pm on Friday 4th September for an evening of stories (and maybe a wee song if he can be persuaded!)
This event will be held in the Lounge of Queens Cross Church, Albyn Place, Aberdeen. For a map, click here. The church is a 10/15 minute walk from the top of Union Street and there is plenty of parking nearby. The Lounge is wheelchair accessible and teas and coffees (and possibly even a homebake!) will be served. Tickets for this event are 5 and will be available on the door.

Saturday 5th September 2009

The location of Gadiefest then moves to Archaeolink Prehistory Park, Oyne on Saturday morning for a whole range of activities. To find out more about Archaeolink and for directions, please see their web page. Archaeolink has featured storytelling since its opening in 1997, so is delighted to be hosting Gadiefest 2009!

There will be storytelling sessions across the Park from 11am on Saturday.  These will be in the iron age round house - which is  natural storytelling space! - or by the fire in the coffee shop if the weather is unseasonably bad.  Confirmed storytellers include Makar for Aberdeen and the North East (and GAS favourite!) Sheena Blackhall, Cath Little from Wales, local storyteller Grace Banks, Shiela Kinninmonth from Fife and Anna Fancett and Pauline Cordiner from the Grampian Association of Storytellers.

Colin McAllister will be holding Family Storytelling Workshops at 11am, 1pm and 3pm

GAS Chair Anna Fancett will be holding Performance Storytelling sessions in the theatre at 12pm and 2pm.

All this will be followed by an evening of Songs, Stories and Ballads.  Join us from 7pm until late for an Open Session in the Archaeolink cafe.  The evening will be hosted by Grace Banks and Sheena Blackhall will start us off!  The bar will be open and the fire will be lit and everyone is welcome to tell a story or joke, sing a song or ballad or play a game or instrument!  3 entry charge, or free with a weekend ticket. Doors open 6.30pm.

Sunday 6th September 2009

Local storytellers Jackie Ross and Margaret Currie will be a workshop for young storytellers between the ages of 8 and 12.  The workshop will be held between 1 and 3 pm followed by a performace in the Theatre at 3pm to show their families what they learnt!

Members of Huntly Writers will be reading from their latest works in an event called "Hills o Whin" in the Theatre at 1pm - see their web page, http://www.huntlywriters.co.uk for more details.

At 2pm, the Koo Press Poetry Roadshow will be performing in the theatre.  See their web page, http://www.koopress.co.uk for more details.

If it's stories you're after on the Sunday, though, the iron age farm is the place to be, with a story-round featuring storytellers from around the UK.  If you have a story to tell yourself or would just like to listen, please join us between 11 and 4pm.
