The Gadiefest 2010 FAQ*

*That's Frequently Asked Questions!

What ages are you targeting?

All ages! Stories are not just for the little ones.  Anyone and everyone is welcome - we're sure there will be a story or a song there for you.

Why Gadiefest?

We wanted a name that had a link to the local landscape.  The Gadie is a river that joins the Urie at Oyne Village, where Archaeolink is situated.  Many will associate the Gadie with the song "Gin I Whaur Gadie Rins"

Where can I find accomodation?

Check the Aberdeen and Grampian Tourist Board web page for details of b&bs and accomodation in the area.  If you'd like to perform at Gadiefest, it might be worth emailing gas_story@hotmail.com!  Camping also available.

I want to come on Saturday night, will there be a bar?

There will be a drinks licence at Archaeolink for the duration of the evening event.  You can buy your drinks there.  However, if the singing goes on past the time on the drinks licence, you will be free to drink your own alcohol outside the Archaeolink building.  All smoking will be outside the building as per legislation.

Who can I expect to see perform at Gadiefest?

Performers confirmed so far are: Cath Little, John Wheeler, Anna Fancett, Pauline Cordiner.  More names to confirm as the dates grow near!

However, we look forward to hearing YOU tell a tale or sing a song! And if you don't want to do that? Well, a performer would be nothing without their audience!

Have you any Press Release information?

Yes, feel free to use the Press Release below, or contact GAS or Archaeolink on the details given at the bottom of the 2010 Programme of Events Page.

Gadiefest 2010 - A Festival of Storytelling and Traditional Arts in the North East of Scotland.

The Grampian Association of Storytellers and Archaeolink Prehistory Park have teamed up to present a new festival of storytelling, drama, music, ballads, art, crafts and poetry. Join us from Friday 10th September to Sunday 11th September 2010 to celebrate the rich heritage of the North East of Scotland.

The festival will include storytelling sessions, a storytelling workshop, displays of arts and crafts and on Saturday evening there will be an open session of stories, songs, ballads and music to which everyone is invited to listen or perform.

The festival kicks off on Friday at 7pm with an evening of stories from guest storyteller Cath Little. Tickets will be £5 at the door and the event will be held at the Queen's Cross Church Lounge, Albyn Place, Aberdeen. Tea and coffee will be served.

The location then moves to Archaeolink Prehistory Park, Oyne who will host the remainder of the festival. Archaeolink is a multi award winning living history park and visitor attraction which has featured storytelling amongst its activities since it opened in 1997.
